Quirklust: Collaborative Update!

9 Jun

Hi everyone!

It’s time to stop and thank you all for being so actively involved in Quirklust during its first few baby steps. The blog has been read over one thousand times and we have over 500 followers on our Facebook page. QL has been happily inundated with page requests and we are certainly moving as quickly as we can! There is so much to learn in all of this–it has been  fun adventure so far! Can’t wait to see where time takes us all.

Some lovely things to look forward to: new Artists are going to be added all the time–so keep your eyes out for those Quirkluster updates and be sure to support one another. What good is a creative collaborative if we aren’t working together to get awesomeness done?

I have a few Artists lined up who have sent in requests, as well as some others who I plan to seek out. Looks like we’ve got the multimedia art + design work from  TMA Design Studio coming up, paintings by one of the best photo-realists we have ever known, Becka Ormsbee…we’ve got musicians such as Josh Taylor of the rad band Redo [he’s also a kickass soloist], member(s) of the wonderfully inspiring group The Eyes [hopefully! Tim + Abby Isaacson..you rock!]….we’ve got fresh web design work from SocialSongbird, writing from the incredibly brilliant author [and boundary-testing thinker] Stephanie Webb, and a slew of creative works [web graphics, animation, writing…] from Artist David Hewitt…and there’s more. You just hold tight, Quirklusters.

Also coming up, I’m going to do some stellar interviews…look out for those. I’m going to be talking Rise Tren of Rising Trends Fashion [she is one incredible woman!]. It’s bound to be an interesting piece. I’ll also be talking with the very creative illustrator/industrial designer, Ted Layton.

We haven’t had much extra time around here, so you’ve probably noticed that the Artist of the week and the Database tabs are empty. Not to worry! They will be updated soon. Just hang tight for us, please.

Again, thank you so much for your support and don’t forget to spread the word! We want involvement! We need it…oh baby, oh baby. It’s free…it’s awesome…it’s fun..it’s good people.

Love love love from QL!

XO!

Hey Quirklusters !

Got another competition alert for you today! This one today is more focused for Graphic Designers…though, I would say that lots of you other creative types could get involved as well. This one is through Bartcelona.org–check out the official details below!

Lust on!

Bartcelona.org design edition is launching a contest for professional designers as well as design students with the aim of promoting creativity and making it possible for young designers to realize their ideas and reflect upon the way in which design – from its most practical to its most abstract expressions – influences the shopping mall experience.

The contest will have three main categories: design, show and dream, each focusing on different aspects of design in shopping malls.

Design category:
objects, spaces, graphic and signage for a new conception of the mall.

Show category:
Features and installations to create a distinctive visual experience in shopping malls.

Dream category:
Open to new ideas about the future design of shopping malls.

Submitted materials must be originals and cannot have been published anywhere prior to the announcement of the contest results.

Eligibility

The contest is open to people of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 40 who study or work in the field of design, either individually or collectively. Each person or group can submit only one proposal per category.

Prize

A total of 20 finalists will be chosen from all submitted entries and exhibited during a period of more than two weeks in Glòries and another venue, which is still to be determined. The jury will then choose three winners among them.

The first prize winner will be awarded with € 5,000, the second prize winner with € 3,000 and the third prize winner with € 2,000. Furthermore, the event sponsors (Freixenet, Swatch) will give a present to all finalists, including the winners:
